Important Information on Class Dojo!
Since our return from break, we have created a SOCIAL CONTRACT for our classroom. This is something we are doing school wide to create a positive culture of learning and caring throughout our school. THE STUDENTS worked in groups to discuss answers to questions like, "How do you want to be treated by each other?" "How do you want to be treated by your teacher?" "How do you think your teacher wants to be treated?" When we met back together as a class, we created a 'social contract' which included their thoughts and ideas. Words like 'respectful', 'nice', 'listening', 'no put-downs' were added to our social contract.
The next step was for the students to create the CONSEQUENCES. They, again, met as groups to discuss what they felt would be appropriate consequences for 'breaking' the social contract. THE STUDENTS came up with the following order: Warning, Loss of Dojo Point, Loss of Recess, Break in the Back Room, E-mail or DOJO message sent home, etc.
Therefore, you may find your child losing DOJO points more often due to my following their consequences. This will provide opportunities for you to discuss with your child how they broke the social contract and what they could do next time. Thank you for your support.
Don't forget that Moby Max provides additional math practice at home! We spend the first half of our computer lab time on Moby Max and it would be helpful if they could independently login to the site. Help your child find the correct Avalon Elementary School by pointing out it's in MI in Saint Clair Shores. Thank you for helping your child with this!

This week in....
MATH: We will be pre-assessing on Unit 5 and begin instruction on this Unit. We have completed all work in Workbook 1, so they will be bringing this home. There are a couple of pages they can complete for extra practice at home. We will now be working in Workbook 2 for the remainder of the school year.
READING: We pick back up on our Reading Mastery lessons. We continue to progress in our Spelling program, as well, listening for the sounds in the words we want to write. This spelling practice is directly linked to reading, as well.
WRITING: This week, your child will continue working on a topic of their choice to begin a writing piece on. We have learned from authors ways to make our writing better. These include writing words we say with expression in all capitals, repeating sentences of importance, sharing a lesson learned to end a writing piece, using sound words, etc. We worked all last week on a piece and spent time with peer revision (students checking each others work). We will continue with that this week. Some of our writers are ready to move on to a new piece, while others are still working on their current writing piece. I look forward to the students sharing their work with you!
SCIENCE: We are pre-assessing for our Science unit on Light and Sound! We will begin by investigating how light helps us see and what sources of light are available to us.
As always, any questions, please let me know....contact me via Class Dojo or at [email protected]. Have a great week!
